Vocabulary of Color

Primary Colors,Secondary Colors, Tertiary Colors, Analogous Colors

Complementary Colors, Value and Intensity.

 

1. From the menu bar open Window > Color Guide .

2. Click on the Edit Colors button to open the Live Color dialog box.

3. Change your main color to red, then open the Harmony Rule menu and select Triad

4. These three colors (red, Yellow,Blue)are the basic building blocks of color and they are called

"primaries"

5. Display smooth color wheel. These three colors can be connected by an imaginary triangle .

6. Display the segmented color wheel, then click on the "add color marker tools" to add

Secondary Colors.

7. Orange, Violet, and Green are called " Secondary colors", because each is born of primary

parents. Red and Yellow make Orange, Yellow and Blue create Green, Blue and Red produce Purple.

8. Click on the "add color marker tools" to add 6 Tertiary colors (ter.she.air.ee).Each tertiary color

is formed by combining a primary and a secondary color.

9. Complementary colors are opposite each other on the color wheel. Click on the base color ...

10. ... open the harmony Rules and choose Complementary. Complementary colors go well

together and they contain the complete trio of primaries.

11. Now open the harmony Rules pop-up menu and select "Analogous".

12. They are harmonious because they reflect the same light waves.

13. Value is the relative degree of lightness or darkness of a color and saturation is the contrast of

pure and dull. The best way to find the lightness or darkness of a color is to make a gray scale.

14. By arranging white,black, and different range of gray you could create a space full of tension

and it evokes a feeling of liveliness.Using grays from the light to light medium creates a space

which is not dramatic and the arrangement feels open and light.On the other hand, using darker

elements in an arrangement make it relatively dense.
